How does Citroën’s Start/Stop system work, and why is the battery so expensive to replace?

The system Start/Stop The Stop & Start system, present in more modern Citroën models (such as the C4 Cactus), automatically shuts off the engine when the vehicle is stopped and quickly restarts it when the brake or accelerator pedal is pressed. This reduces fuel consumption and pollutant emissions in traffic.

The reason why the Replacement batteries are significantly more expensive. The difference with a regular car lies in the system requirements. It requires an advanced technology battery (AGM – Absorbent Glass Mat or EFB – Enhanced Flooded Batterycapable of withstanding thousands of fast and deep discharge and recharge cycles without damaging its circuit boards.

Using a conventional battery instead of an AGM/EFB will cause the Start/Stop system to be automatically deactivated by the car, and the standard battery will not last long due to stress. Therefore, the high cost of the battery is a price to pay for the technology and efficiency of the system. The replacement is generally plug-and-play, but in some models it may require electronic registration of the new battery in the management module.
