What do you feel? The airbag light stays on permanently on the dashboard and, in many cases, the message “Airbag or Seatbelt with Pretensioner Malfunction” appears every time you start the car. Often, the problem begins after you adjust the steering wheel height or turn the car fully to one side.
The Logic of the System: The car needs to send an electrical signal to the airbag located inside the steering wheel, which is a rotating part. To prevent the wire from tangling and breaking, there is a component called… Airbag Strap (Hard Disc or Clock Spring), which is a coiled tape that allows rotation. The code B0001 indicates that the computer tried to “sense” the resistance of the airbag, but found an open circuit.
- Possible Solution: Most of the time, the inner ribbon of the airbag clock spring breaks due to wear and tear or because it was installed off-center after maintenance on the steering box. The definitive solution is to replace the key module (COM2000) or just the airbag clock spring, depending on the model.. Tip: Before replacing it, check that the yellow plug behind the steering wheel airbag isn’t just loose.
