While Brazil focuses on SUVs like the Basalt and the C3, Citroën dominates the world’s most cramped capitals with a radically different proposition: the Citroën Ami. This isn’t exactly a “car,” but an electric quadricycle that is redefining how people move around in historic centers and dense cities.

The main attraction is its price (around 7,000 to 9,000 Euros) and the fact that, in many countries, teenagers from the age of 14 can drive it without having a full driver’s license.

Where is it sold?

The Citroën Ami is a global project, but adapted for specific markets. See where this small “test tube” on wheels is already a reality:

  • France and Portugal: That’s where it all began. It’s extremely common in Paris and Lisbon, used by both young people and delivery companies.
  • Spain and Italy: Marketed as a lifestyle solution, with customized versions for coastal regions (such as the Ami Buggy).
  • Greece: Recently, Citroën supplied fleets of Ami vehicles to the police on Chalki Island, focusing on zero emissions.
  • Morocco and Türkiye: The car is produced at the Kenitra factory in Morocco and is sold as an affordable mobility option for the urban middle class.
  • United Kingdom: It arrived with the steering wheel on the left side (even though the English drive on the right), such was the demand for a cheap urban solution.

What does he offer?

The Ami is powered by an electric motor of just 6 kW (8 hp) and reaches a top speed of 45 km/h. Your autonomy is… 75 kmEnough for a full day of urban commuting. It charges in any standard 220V outlet in just 3 hours.

And what about Brazil?

In Brazil, Citroën brought in some Ami units for internal testing and use in closed corporate fleets (such as at Stellantis factories and partnerships with energy companies).

The official launch for the general public is still hampered by our legislation: here, it would need to be homologated with safety features that would significantly increase its cost, or be classified in a category of quadricycles that is still relatively unexplored. However, the Ami serves as a basis for the development of affordable electric solutions that we will see in the Brazilian Citroën lineup in the coming years.

Expert Analysis

Verdict: The Citroën Ami proves that Citroën hasn’t forgotten its roots in popular innovation. It doesn’t try to be a luxury car; it tries to be an electric “umbrella on wheels.” For those living in cities like São Paulo or Rio de Janeiro, a vehicle of this size would be the ultimate solution to parking and traffic chaos.
