The cooling fan is responsible for cooling the radiator when the car is stationary or at low speed. If it doesn’t turn on, the engine will overheat, which can burn the head gasket.
- Focused Model: Citroën C3 (1.4 and 1.6 16V engines – Generation 1 and 2).
- Location of Protection: The fuse that protects the electric fan drive is in BSM (Engine Service Box), located under the hood, next to the battery.
- Correct Fuse: It’s usually the fuse. F1, with amperage of 20A (responsible for low speed/command).
Attention: There is also a high-power fuse (Maxi-Fuse) of 40A or 50A which is hidden at the bottom of the BSM, but the F1 (20A) It’s what usually burns out first in the event of minor overloads.
What else should we check?
If the fuse F1 (20A) If the engine is running well and the fan still doesn’t turn on at low speed (the speed that turns on when the engine reaches about 97°C or when you turn on the air conditioning), the problem is almost always the Electric Fan Resistor. It’s fitted into the fan’s own support, behind the front grille. It’s a small part that frequently burns out in the C3, preventing the fan from spinning slowly.
