What happens: The transmission fluid needs to be cooled. To do this, it passes through a part called Heat exchangerThis part uses water from the radiator to lower the oil temperature. If the previous owner didn’t use coolant in the radiator, this part will rust from the inside.
The Real Danger: If the heat exchanger gets a puncture, the Water from the radiator gets into the transmission. and the oil turns into a pink “mayonnaise”. This destroys the internal composite discs in just a few kilometers.
- Possible Solution: Installation of a External Cooling Kit (Dedicated oil cooler). Many Citroën specialists recommend removing the original oil changer and installing an air cooler at the front of the car. This makes the transmission last twice as long.
