Citroën’s sunroof is a robust system from the brand. Webasto, but he suffers from two main enemies: the lack of lubrication and the clogged drains.
- The Freezing Problem: The roof tracks are exposed to dust and pollution. The original grease dries out and turns into an abrasive “paste”. If you insist on opening the roof under these conditions, the effort could burn out the electric motor or break the… plastic guides (which are the most expensive and difficult parts to replace).
- Water Infiltration (Wet Carpet): Every sunroof is designed to let in some water through the seals; this water should drain through four channels (drains) that run down the car’s pillars to the ground. If you often park under trees, leaves and dirt clog these tubes. The water, having nowhere to go, overflows the track and runs down the headliner, wetting the “A” pillars and the floor.
Preventive maintenance:
- Track Cleaning: Use a damp cloth to remove the old grease and apply silicone grease or solid petroleum jelly (Never use WD-40 or petroleum-based products, as they dry out the rubber).
- Drain Cleaning: With the roof open, locate the holes in the front corners. You can use a brush cutter line or compressed air (with caution) to clear the blockages in the pipes.
Location of Protection (Fuses): If the sunroof doesn’t turn on, the fuse is located in… BSI (inside the cabin):
- Correct Fuse: It is usually the F15 (30A) or a dedicated fuse of 20A Depending on the version.
Golden Tip: If the ceiling light remains open, most models have a manual emergency release. Behind the ceiling light (where the button is located), there is a slot for a key. Allen which allows you to close the window manually.
