The rain and light sensor in the Citroën line is attached directly to the glass, behind the interior rearview mirror. It works by refracting infrared light.
- The Gelatin Problem (Pad): Between the sensor and the glass there is a gel (silicone) cushion. When the windshield wiper is replaced, this gel must be replaced with a new one and installed without air bubbles. If there are bubbles or if the installer uses regular silicone, the sensor light is misread, and the control unit “understands” that it is always dark (turning on the headlights) or that it is raining (activating the wipers).
- Poor Quality Glass: Parallel or very dark windshields (with a very low sunshade) can interfere with the sensitivity of the light sensor. If the glass does not have the correct transparent “window” size for the sensor, the system will not work.
- Configuration Errors: In some cases, after replacing the part or the glass, it is necessary to perform the teleloading or calibration via scanner (Lexia/Diagbox) to inform BSI of the correct sensitivity of the new component.
Location of Protection (Fuses): The sensor is powered by BSI (Cabin), usually sharing the fuse for the dashboard or the electrochromic rearview mirror.
- Correct Fuse: Check the F11 (15A) or the F15 (15A) In the BSI. If it burns out, the headlights and wipers will still work in manual mode, but the automatic functions will be disabled.
Technical Tip: If your “Auto” headlight has stopped working and the glass is original, check for dirt or window tint installed on the inside covering the sensor area.
