Parking Sensor Failure (Citroën C4)

The C4’s parking sensor system is interconnected. This means that if… just one If one of the sensors (usually 4 at the rear) malfunctions or is disconnected, the control unit deactivates the entire system for safety reasons to prevent collisions due to lack of readings.

• Focused Model: Citroën C4 (Hatch, Pallas, VTR and Lounge).
• Common Symptoms:
  1. Continuous Whistling: Usually caused by excessive dirt, ice, or a sensor that has been impacted and “sunk” into the bumper, reading the car’s own structure.
  2. Error Message: It appears on the on-board computer as soon as reverse gear is engaged.
• Location of Protection: The fuse that powers the parking assistance module is located in BSI (Integrated Services Box), inside the cabin (dashboard).
• Correct Fuse: It’s usually the fuse. F12 or F14, with amperage of 15A (Depending on the manual version, it shares the accessory and instrument panel lines).

Causes of the Problem and Diagnosis:

1. Coupling Interference: If you recently installed a trailer hitch, the hitch “ball” might be in front of one of the central sensors, causing the system to beep continuously.
2. Water infiltration: Washing with high-pressure washers directly on the sensors can damage the internal seal, causing a short circuit in the sensor.
3. Simple Test: With the ignition on and reverse engaged (car off for safety), lightly place your ear against each sensor. A functioning sensor will emit a very low, quick click (sounds like a “tick-tick-tick”). The sensor that is silent is the one that is faulty.
