The cigarette lighter (12V socket) in my C3/C4 stopped working and won’t charge my cell phone. Where is the fuse located and what is its function?

The 12V socket, frequently used to charge electronic devices or power accessories, is one of the most common sources of problems, as faulty accessories or accidental short circuits (coins, debris) can blow its fuse.

  • Common Location: The fuse that protects the cigarette lighter/12V socket is located in Integrated Services Fuse Box (BSI), inside the cabin (usually under the dashboard, on the left, or under the glove compartment).
  • Function: It is a relatively low amperage fuse (typically F10 or F11, valued at $15A$ or $20A$ depending on the model and year), whose function is to protect the wiring and the BSI module against overloads from accessories plugged into the outlet.

If the outlet stops working, you should first check that fuse on the BSI.. Important: Always replace a blown fuse with another one. exactly the same amperage (color). Replacing it with a higher amperage fuse negates the protection and may cause a fire in the wiring harness.
