The Logic of the System: The ABS module is one of the “bosses” of communication. It reports the speed to everyone. The code U1213 means that the engine control module received information from the ABS, but this information came back truncated, confused, or incomplete. It’s not that the ABS broke, but the “conversation” between them suffered interference.
- Possible Solution: In the vast majority of cases, the problem is oxidation (verdigris) on the ABS module connector. Because it’s located in a place exposed to moisture (near the fender or radiator), water gets into the plug and causes a short circuit between the data pins. Disconnecting the plug, applying a high-quality contact cleaner, and checking for broken wires in the harness usually solves the problem without needing to replace the expensive module.
