What do you feel? The ESP (Electronic Stability Program) light comes on, but the steering remains light. The problem is that the car’s turn signals may not automatically disengage after turns, or the car seems to “hold” the brake slightly on one wheel when making a tighter turn.
The Logic of the System: The car needs to know exactly where the “zero point” is (straight wheels). The C1414 code indicates that the Angle Sensor (located behind the steering wheel) has lost its reference. This often happens after wheel alignment or after the battery has been disconnected for a long time.
- Possible Solution: Perform the procedure of Zero-Point Learning. With the car running and stationary, turn the steering wheel all the way to the left, then all the way to the right, and back to the center. If the error persists, you will need to use a scanner to perform a “Wheel Angle Sensor Reset.” This is a software adjustment that does not require replacing any physical parts.
