What do you feel? The ABS and Electronic Stability Control (ESP) lights come on. In some models, the speed limiter and cruise control stop working immediately and will not be activated.
The Logic of the System: For your safety, the car cross-references information: it checks if you pressed the brake pedal (via the pedal sensor) and checks if the brake fluid pressure has increased (via the ABS module). If it sees fluid pressure but doesn’t see the pedal pressed, it understands that there is an “inconsistency” and disables the assistance systems to prevent the car from braking automatically due to a reading error.
- Possible Solution: Replacement of Brake Pedal Switch. It’s a small, inexpensive part located just above the pedal. It has two internal circuits; sometimes the brake light comes on (a good circuit), but the signal to the control unit doesn’t go through (a bad second circuit). Another common cause is the use of burnt-out brake bulbs or poor-quality LEDs, which alter the circuit’s resistance.
