What do you feel? You turn on the headlight and receive the “Defective Bulb” warning. You get out, look, and all the bulbs seem to be lit, or one of them is much dimmer than the others.
The Logic of the System: Citroën vehicles have current monitoring (Can-Bus). The control unit knows exactly how much energy a standard bulb consumes. If you install a poor-quality bulb or an LED bulb without a canceller, the control unit generates code B1601 because the resistance is incorrect.
- Possible Solution: Remove cheap LED bulbs and switch back to the original halogen bulbs. If the bulbs are original, check the… headlight harness connector. It is very common for the grounding pin (ground wire) to melt slightly due to heat, creating high resistance that generates error B1601. Cleaning the pin and tightening the connector resolves the “phantom error” of a burned-out bulb.
