Change the lubricant (always using the 100% synthetic oil approved in the manual, usually Total 0W30 or 5W30 of the correct specification) every 7,000 km or 6 months, whichever comes first.
2. Pay attention to the tensioner and timing chain: Unlike engines that use belts, the THP uses a chain. If, when starting the car in the morning, you hear a loud metallic noise coming from the engine (similar to a sewing machine), which disappears after a few minutes, the chain tensioner has lost pressure. Replace the kit preventively to avoid engine misalignment.
3. Valve Decarbonization: Because it has direct injection, the fuel is injected directly into the combustion chamber, and does not pass through the intake valves to “clean” them. Over time, oil vapors stick to the valves and cause combustion problems (such as codes P1337 to P1340). The solution is to perform physical or chemical decarbonization in specialized workshops every 40,000 km.
4. High Pressure Pump (HPFP): Symptoms such as engine stalling at high RPMs or difficulty starting a hot car often indicate a faulty high-pressure fuel pump. Diagnosis is made by measuring the fuel line pressure via scanner; if it is below 50 bar under acceleration, replacement is necessary.
