You bought your New Citroën C3 or AircrossWhile many are enjoying the turbocharged engine and comfortable suspension, an irritating noise emerges on the highway at speeds exceeding 90 km/h: a whistling sound or wind noise entering the cabin. This negative issue is one of the most common complaints in Google searches about the new Citroën line in Brazil.

Although it may seem like a serious design flaw, most of the time the noise is caused by small assembly details that can be corrected without spending a fortune. See how to identify and silence your car for quieter journeys.

The Negative Problem: Why does the wind “whistle”?

The C-Cubed project prioritized interior space and cost-effectiveness. To achieve this, some sealing solutions were simplified. Wind noise occurs mainly for two reasons:

  1. Door Misalignment: If the door is only 1 or 2 millimeters “out” from the car body, the wind hits the corner and creates a noisy turbulence.
  2. Low Profile Sealing Rubbers: In some batches, the sealing rubbers on the upper part of the door do not exert enough pressure against the car body, allowing air to pass through.

Diagnostic Table: Identify the Noise

The Positive Solution: How to Solve the Problem

The solution doesn’t require replacing the doors. Here’s what you (or your mechanic) can do:

  1. Adjusting the Lock: Ask the dealership (or trusted mechanic) to adjust the door lock “stop.” By pulling the door in a few millimeters, the seal becomes tighter and the wind noise usually disappears immediately.
  2. Silicone lubrication: Use silicone spray on the weatherstripping. This keeps the rubber flexible and “puffed up,” ensuring it makes perfect contact with the car body.
  3. Verification of Plastic Finishes: Sometimes the noise comes from the black exterior trim on the door pillars. If they are loose, a simple, high-quality 3M double-sided tape will solve the problem permanently.

Expert Tip

Verdict: Before complaining about the seal, check that all the windows are fully closed. The Citroën’s anti-pinch system can sometimes “miscalibrate” and leave the window 1mm open without you visually noticing. Try recalibrating the windows by holding the button up for 5 seconds after fully closing them.
