The Logic of the System: In these cars, it’s not the engine that drives the belt-driven power steering pump; it’s a dedicated electric motor. The P05D2 code indicates that this electric motor (the power pump) is consuming too much power or overheating. It’s a sign that the pump is working under excessive strain.
- Possible Solution: Check the power steering fluid level. If the oil level is low or too old/dark, the pump works harder and generates an error. Another critical point: the Maxi-Fuse (high amperage fuse) which is hidden in the BSM or near the battery. If it has microcracks, the pump does not receive the necessary current and the system fails. If the oil level is correct and the fuses are good, the internal electronic board of the pump may be nearing the end of its lifespan.
