What do you feel? You’re driving and, out of nowhere, the speedometer needle drops to zero and then goes back up. While it’s at zero, the car seems to “hiccup” or the power steering becomes too light or too heavy.
Explanation for Laymen: The car uses speed to know how much power steering assistance to apply and how to change gears. If the speed indicator disappears, the car becomes “blind.” It doesn’t know if you’re going 10 km/h or 100 km/h.
- Where is the error? In Citroën models, this is usually caused by dirt on the sensors located behind the wheels (the ABS sensors). They are exposed to mud and brake dust. A simple cleaning with water and neutral detergent can solve the problem before you have to spend money on new parts.
