Explanation for Laymen: The code P0299 means “Turbo Subpressure”. It’s as if your car’s lung has a leak. The turbocharger tries to blow air into the engine, but air is escaping somewhere or the valve controlling the turbocharger has remained open.
- Most common cause: It’s not a broken turbo! Most of the time it’s a small rubber hose that costs 10 reais or a part called… Diverter Valve which tore the rubber membrane.
- Extra Tip: If your mechanic immediately tells you “you need to replace the turbocharger,” get a second opinion. 90% of P0299 error codes are due to external air leaks.
